Pizzas come in many shapes and sizes. But the key to making a great pizza is using simple, great quality ingredients to achieve the best flavours.

In our opinion, Homeslice does this well! What started off as a stall in street food markets in 2011, has now become a successful restaurant with three permanent fixtures.

We visited Homeslice’s Fiztrovia branch recently, which is on Wells Street – just down the road from Oxford Street. It really is a hidden gem within the quiet residential area.  We were wow’ed by the menu – and also the massive roaring wood-fired oven.

Homeslice serves 20″ pizzas – yes massive 20″ pizzas!! Just one of these can fill up 2 – 3 people quite comfortably and will only cost you £20.00. You can choose two flavours on each pizza, or you can have one of the single slice options (a quarter of a 20″ one) and costs £4.00 a slice.

There’s a good mix of meat and vegetarian options, so there’s something for everyone!

There were 3 of us eating, so we decided to get one 20″ pizza with two flavours and a single slice so that we could try one extra flavour!

Chorizo, Corn and Coriander  – when we were ordering, our friendly waitress said this was her favourite one and boy was she right! The creamy corn base, with some roasted corn sprinkled over, was spread evenly across the pizza dough. The chorizo pieces were chunky and oh so juicy! Once you bit into one, all those lovely smokey, spicy flavours burst into your mouth. The addition of the coriander and spring onions gave this side of the pizza extra flavours and textures too. A must try!

Aubergine, Cauliflower Cheese, Spinach and Harissa – this vegetarian option was so good even for us meat lovers! The roasted aubergine was super soft and fluffy. The cauliflower cheese base was lovely and gooey. But star was the harissa generously drizzled all over – the spices were so intense! A really good combination of flavours.

Salami, Rocket and Parmesan – this was one of the three single slice options available. These aren’t pre-made though, which sadly meant it was served a little colder than we’d have liked. Nonetheless, the flavours from all the ingredients worked really well. Especially the parmesan!

All of the flavours we had were absolutely delicious and we were so impressed!

Even the cocktails were yummy too! We tried their Amaretto Sour and the Kiwi Mojito.

So we gave Homeslice a score of 4 yums altogether. Perfectly cooked pizzas, using the freshest ingredients. The flavour combinations were really simple, yet so creative. However, it would’ve been better if the single slice of pizza was served warmer than it was. The additional salt on the pizza base was also a little much for our liking. Either way, you really must give Homeslice a try!
