We’ve heard a lot about Blacklock in Soho for having some awesome food and a heaven for meat lovers (very popular in Instagram), so Yummy Jubbly ventured into this new restaurant in Soho to check it out. The restaurant was located on the basement, we were immediately welcomed with the friendly staff and loud music. It indeed has the trendy vibe to start off your Friday weekend. We arrived at 6pm but the restaurant was fully occupied within a short period.
We ordered the “All In” menu which came with: 3 Pre chop bites
“Today’s skinny chops” (pork, lamb and beef) piled over chargrilled flatbread and 3 side dishes.
The price for the All In menu was £20 with a minimum of 2, we went as a trio and wanted to try a mix of things so it was a no brainer for us.
The pre-chop bites were small delicate wheat crackers topped with 3 different kinds of toppings which includes the cheese and pickle, duck rillette and apple kimchi and the egg with anchovy. Personally I prefer the cheese with pickle as it has very strong creaminess from the cheese.
The meat came on a large platter with the chargrilled flat breads on the base soaking up all the fat and juice of the meat, which was absolutely amazing to eat! The meat itself, even though it packed with flavour, the chef was overly generous with the seasonings and actually cooked the meat to the point where it was quite dry.
The beef still has little pink inside but it was not juicy so as the pork chop too. The only meat we liked was the lamp chop as it’s still moist, tender and juicy.
Overall the experience at Blacklock was pleasant but the star of the dinner, the meat was a bit of a let down. We actually were more impressed with their starters than the actual meal! The price for 3 is slightly above average for what you get therefore we have given Blacklock a fair 3.5 yums
