Have you tried a macaron ice cream before? No? Then you absolutely must check out Yolkin situated in London’s Soho!
We’ve been following Yolkin via social media for a while now and Kitty finally got the chance to get a taste!
Opens only on Saturday between 10am-2pm, the mastermind behind Yolkin is Sammie Le. She was making macarons which uses egg whites only, so what to do with the egg yolks? Her answer was ice-cream! Then she thought, why not put them together like a sandwich? And so, the Yolkin macaron ice-cream sandwich was created.
If that’s still not enough to impress you, Sammie makes every single one by hand. Each weekend she has different flavours to sell. So you need to check her Instagram during the week so you know what flavours are on sale that weekend. When Kitty went, these were the flavours for her to choose from:
As her stomach space was limited, and these macaron ice-creams are massive, Kitty could only choose two flavours to try. So she opted for:
Lemon Cheesecake (£4.80) – this was exactly like eating a slice of cheesecake. Sharp lemon flavours paired with the creamy ice-cream. The lemon taste could’ve been sharper, but thats a personal preference. The added sprinkle of crumble on top was a really nice touch!
Salted Caramel Brownie (£4.80) – there were chocolate brownie bits within the ice-cream making this extra yummy. The drizzle of salted caramel was so luxurious – just wish there was more!
Overall, the experience at Yolkin was awesome so we’re giving it 3 yums! The macarons were bouncy yet firm and not super sweet like a lot on the market these days. You may think these are pricey, but they’re massive! So definitely worth the money. Just remember to get there early before they sell out and to avoid the long queue!
